About this programme

The Health cluster aims to improve the health and well-being of citizens through creating innovative solutions based on scientific research. It will focus on creating new knowledge and know-how, making the best possible use of this knowledge for the benefit of the people.
Research activities will be key to addressing the health-related challenges through advancing knowledge and capabilities, improving the understanding of health and disease, developing innovative methodological and technological solutions for better health and diseases management.

The purpose and the overall objectives will set in motion research actions and strategies helping to achieve the following six possible impacts, which are as follow:

1. Staying healthy in a rapidly changing society: herein the work will be focused on major societal challenges such as aging and demographic changes, mental health, digital empowerment in health literacy, and personalized prevention.
2. Living and working in a health-promoting environment: focuses on air pollution, chemicals, non-ionizing radiation, urbanization, climate, and other environmental changes.
3. Tackling diseases and reducing disease burden: the focus will be on the fight against cancer and other non-communicable diseases, better diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases, reduction the antimicrobial-resistant infections, and improving vaccination rates.
4. Ensuring access to innovative, sustainable, and high-quality health care: herein the research and innovation aims to support health care systems by innovative development, feasible implementable solution based on cost-effective and people-centered solutions.
5. Unlocking the full potential of new tools, technologies, and digital solutions for a healthy society: the main task will focus on health technologies, new tools, and digital solutions.
6. Maintaining an innovative, sustainable, and globally competitive health-related industry: the focus will be on the needed cross-sectoral research on medical technologies, pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies, and digital health technologies.
